Organized by the German-Saudi Arabian Liaison Office for Economic Affairs (GESALO), a high-ranking delegation under the leadership of the Council of Saudi Chambers (CSC) visited Germany this week. The 30 business leaders of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia met German CEOs and industry leaders to discuss future business opportunities. They attended a roundtable meeting of the Saudi-German Business Council. GESALO delegate Oliver Oehms described the meeting as highly successful and underlined the importance of deep business relations between Germany and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. CSC Co- Chairman H. E. Khaled Al-Juffali acknowledged the initiative of GESALO to foster the good trade relations between both countries.

At Hanover Trade Fair, the world’s leading industrial trade fair with more than 5,500 exhibitors and approximately 200,000 visitors, the Saudi delegation enjoyed a VIP tour including a reception by Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser, who emphasized the great importance and potential of the Kingdom. Among the visited stands was the Saudi Industrial Property Authority (MODON), exhibiting for the third time at Hanover Trade Fair. Sponsored by Siemens, thyssenkrupp and V-LINE Group, the delegation joined a Saudi-German business dinner at the Yachting Club in Hanover, where several German counterparts took part. In a festive ceremony, V-LINE Founder and CEO Detlev Daues looked back at his company's more than 35 years of presence in the Kingdom praising the good relations. GESALO Delegate Oliver Oehms concluded that "the presence of Saudi exhibitors at this important trade fair shows that the Kingdom has a lot to offer to the world".

Before, the delegation attended the official Trade Fair opening ceremony with the presence of H. E. Dr. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. It was a special opportunity to see the German Chancellor before she will embark on a 2-day visit to Saudi Arabia on April 30 being accompanied by leading CEOs from Siemens, Lufthansa and others. Also Dr. Eric Schweitzer, Chairman of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce will join the German head of state.

Saudi Arabia and Germany traditionally share close trade relations resulting in a bilateral trade volume of almost EUR8 billion (SR32 billion) in the year 2016. Yet, GESALO has already launched several initiatives to increase this figure in the upcoming years. GESALO Delegate Oliver Oehms claims that "the Kingdom is a major trade partner for Germany and my office will continue to facilitate and build bridges between our great countries".
