GESALO hosts German-Saudi Mechanical Engineering Symposium

The German machinery and manufacturing industry is worldwide known for its innovative strength, high quality standards, and customer-oriented service attitude. Bilateral trade relations between Germany and Saudi Arabia are also based on a close business cooperation in this sector. Facing large structural changes and new developments due to the Vision 2030 and the implementation of the National Transformation Plan, new business opportunities for German companies will open up in the petrochemical sector. The delegation of German companies has the objective to offer and present their solution to the Saudi business community in the Eastern Province.

Therefore, GESALO on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in cooperation with VDMA (General Assembly of the Mechanical Engineering Industry Association) and MENA Projektpartner e.V., organized a business symposium held at the Le Meridien Hotel in al-Khobar on November 20. Ten German companies presented their products and services and got engaged with interested representatives from Saudi Arabian companies. Besides the presentations, individuals used the coffee breaks to get to know each other and discuss potential business co-operations.

Those companies present at the symposium are all known as Hidden Champions, as they are called in Germany. They are not big enough to be recognized by the general public, as they operate in niche markets, where they are worldwide leaders. Companies included ARCA, which develops, manufactures, and markets control valves, actuators, and smart positioners primarily for the chemical, food, power, and oil and gas industry.

Another champion is Alfred Kärcher GmbH & Co. KG, which is the global leading provider of cleaning technology. More than 11,000 people in 60 countries generated a total turnover of 2.22 billion EUR (about 10 billion SAR) in 2015. Innovative solutions include ultra-high pressure washers, sweepers, floor scrubbers, and dry ice blasters.

From the Saudi side, SADARA Chemical Company welcomed the delegation of German companies and emphasized the great potential in this sector. Mr. Thabet Al-Yousef, investment leader at SADARA, outlined the different activities of his company and encouraged the German business representatives to engage in personal talks with Saudi companies.

Oliver Oehms, Delegate of German Industry & Commerce for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Yemen had personal talks with all German companies and summarized that “this petrochemical delegation is a true representation of the German industry. All of the companies are small- and medium-sized enterprises and offer specialized products, which have the highest standards and are global leaders. GESALO is ready to help them to make their next steps into the Saudi market.”
