Energy Delegation

The German-Saudi Arabian Liaison Office for Economic Affairs (GESALO) welcomed an energy business delegation of the German Energy Solutions Initiative, organised in cooperation with Renewables Academy (RENAC) under the German Energy Solutions Initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, a programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Over four days in Riyadh and Jeddah, the delegation explored Saudi Arabia’s solar and wind energy market and gained practical insights into market conditions, project development, local manufacturing and potential cooperation models.

In Riyadh, the programme included a briefing by the German Embassy Riyadh on Saudi Arabia’s political and economic framework, followed by legal insights from Hundt & Partners. Further discussions at and with Juffali as well as Bosch Saudi Arabia focused on their experience with renewable energy projects in the Kingdom.

At alfanar, the delegation visited manufacturing facilities and discussed local content directly alongside production lines. The visit provided practical insights into the role of local manufacturing and the implementation of energy and renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia.

In Jeddah, Zahid Group / Altaaqa Alternative Solutions shared insights into the transition from conventional power infrastructure to renewables, including utility-scale IPP projects and partnerships, and gave the delegation the opportunity to visit their facilities. Desert Technologies presented its local solar manufacturing capacity. Discussions with HAALA Energy and CEPCO RENEWABLES covered the C&I segment as well as the combination of EPC activities and solar energy.

At the Jeddah Chamber, the delegation also met with Saudi SMEs to explore potential sales and cooperation partnerships.

A big thank you to all our hosts and partners for the open discussions and valuable insights!

Our main takeaway: Saudi Arabia is right in the middle of its energy transition, and local value creation came up again and again. German companies willing to produce locally or work closely with Saudi partners will find openings along the whole value chain, as suppliers to local manufacturers, as service partners for existing plants.
