Since June 26, 2020, Bavaria has a representative office in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the largest country and market on the Arabian Peninsula. The neighbouring countries Bahrain and Yemen are also served from there.
The representative is Dr. Dalia Samra-Rohte, the long-standing head of the Bavarian Representative Office in the UAE, who is now leading the Delegation of German Business in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Yemen since August 2019. Many years of professional experience in the Gulf region provide her with an outstanding network.
With the Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia has been in a process of economic and social transformation for the last three years now. The Kingdom, which has been considered one of the most closed countries in the world, is increasingly opening-up to foreign companies. Within the framework of Vision 2030, the country has initiated numerous megaprojects that involve the design and development of entirely new industrial sectors.
Despite the effects of the low oil price and COVID-19, project business continues to be driven forward and the Kingdom is moving ahead with its ambitious plans to diversify its economy.
In the context of Saudi Arabia's social and economic opening, the tourism sector and related infrastructure play a key role. The health sector, the food sector as well as the field of renewable energies and, more recently hydrogen, are other sectors that offer opportunities for Bavarian services and goods.
Bavaria's trade volume with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in total is about 750 million euros. Together with its representative office in the United Arab Emirates, which also covers the countries of Oman, Kuwait and Qatar, Bavaria is now present throughout the Gulf.
Foreign representative offices are an important element of Bavarian foreign trade promotion and the internationalization of Bavaria. They are a visible sign of the global interests of the Free State of Bavaria.
