COVID-19 treatment covered by Saudi insurance, CCHI confirms

Health Ministry records 1,820 critical coronavirus cases, death toll reaches 893

All health insurance policies issued in Saudi Arabia cover the treatment of confirmed and suspected cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Yasser Al-Maarek, a spokesman for the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI), has confirmed.

“CCHI is cooperating with all concerned health agencies, including accredited health care providers like health insurance companies, and government and private institutions, to ensure that adequate health insurance is provided to the insured without any delay,” he said, adding that this would apply to examination, diagnosis, medication, and all other equipment or material not excluded by the patient’s policy.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia recorded 36 new COVID-19-related deaths on Friday, raising the total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the Kingdom to 893.

There were 3,921 new cases reported, meaning 119,942 people have now contracted the virus. There are 38,020 active cases, 1,820 of them are in critical conditions.

According to the Health Ministry, 1,584 of the newly reported cases were in Riyadh, while Jeddah recorded 285 and Makkah 99. Saudi Arabia has so far conducted 1,069,636 tests for COVID-19.

The ministry also announced that 1,010 more patients had recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom to 81,029.
