On May 4, 2023, the "FrauenPower am Bayerischen Untermain" event took place in Aschaffenburg. The IHK Aschaffenburg invited women from business, administration, higher education and politics to the kick-off event.
The Business Women IHK network brings together women entrepreneurs nationwide. It aims to strengthen women in business through networking, projects and policy advice. It promotes the exchange among each other and wants to inspire women for the honorary participation in the IHK. IHK President Dr. Heike Wenzel explained that only 20 percent of women entrepreneurs are represented in the IHK plenary assembly, and the situation is similar in many IHK committees.
Around 50 participants took part in the launch event at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce to find out more about women in business, to exchange ideas and to work out the first common goals of the new network.
"I am not a fan of quotas, we can only increase the proportion of women through role models",
IHK President Dr. Heike Wenzel emphasized. "We have quite a few role models in the room here," she emphasized, and appealed to the participants to get involved in the IHK honorary office.
One of the role models presented by the IHK president at the launch event is Dr. Dalia Samra-Rohte,Delegate of German Industry & Commerce for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Yemen. In her presentation, "The Role of Women in Change in Saudi Arabia," she reported on the transformation process that began five years ago. Dr. Dalia Samra-Rohte vividly described how the country is undertaking the transformation to be perceived as a modern, future-oriented country. In Saudi Arabia, 35 percent of women are now active in all areas of professional life, including management positions.
The participants worked out which events and projects are important for women entrepreneurs in the Bavarian Lower Main region in five different working groups. Among other things, the new women's network is planning regular get-togethers, mentoring programs, training events and speed dating.
